Coach Brian has been head coach of the Stonegate Serpents since 2005. He coaches the National Developmental Group and the Advanced Juniors for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club’s (RMSC) MLK site, where he’s also the administrative coach, and is a physical education teacher at Twinbrook Elementary School. This will be Coach Brian’s 40th consecutive year as a coach and/or swimmer in the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL); many of those years have been spent swimming and coaching alongside his little sister, Coach Anna. He is so appreciative of how welcoming the Stonegate swim family has been to his wife, Danielle, and his parents, Dave and Diane. Coach Brian and Danielle are excited to get their Toddler Serpent, Zachary into the water this summer! As well, he is anticipating another great season alongside his fellow Serpent coaches. “Go Serpents!”
Coach Anna has been a Serpent coach since 2009. She began coaching in MCSL in 1998 and also is a head coach at RMSC’s MLK site. Growing up, Coach Anna swam in MCSL for 13 years, for RMSC for 11 years, and for Our Lady of Good Counsel High School for 4 years. When she’s not coaching, Anna is a kindergarten teacher in Rockville and teaches group and private swim lessons. Anna, the sister of Coach Brian, is also a proud mother of two children that are 20 and 22 years old. She feels blessed to work with children throughout the year. Coaching, teaching, and being a mom are her true passions.
Team Reps
Team representatives serve a variety of purposes for the Stonegate Serpents, including being a resource for parents who need information about the team. We can answer questions about practice and meet schedules, the difference between “A” and “B” meets, which volunteer positions are beginner level and which require some training or certification, how to become a certified official, what to bring to the Friday night potluck, where to buy team gear (and less expensive practice suits), and a whole host of other issues. We’ve been around a while, and we’re here to help as much as we can, or to point you in the direction of help.
This is Theresa’s seventh season as a team rep. The Curtis family joined the Stonegate Serpents in 2009, when their oldest child, Jackie, joined the team. Jackie ('25 graduate from Villanova) finished her last year with the Serpents in 2022, and her sister Camille (attending the University of South Carolina) hung up her goggles in 2024. This season, Theresa and her husband, Patrick, have one eligible swimmer remaining: Cooper, 16, began training with the Serpents pre-team in 2015 and moved up to the regular team in 2016. Alas, Cooper has not registered for the team this summer, breaking the heart of his Mother. Cooper is a rising 11th-grader at Blake High School, where he competes on the Varsity Lacrosse team.
Tom and his wife, Erika, first made their Serpent swimmers go to practice against their will in 2011. Since then, they have survived attended more than 1,000 meets (this statistic has not been verified and is likely hyperbole). Tom has been a Team Rep since 2018, serves on the MCSL Board of Directors, and is in his element when feverishly scoring meets on Saturday mornings. Hard to believe, the Langs have only one swimmer left on the team: Cameron, 17, is a rising senior at Blake High School. Former Serpents Ben and Molly are now Gators ('25 graduate of the University of Florida) and Quakers (still "studying" at the University of Pennsylvania), respectively.
Megan and her husband, John, moved to the area after more than a decade of living internationally as a Diplomatic family. The first order of business, after buying their house sight unseen, was finding a pool! They became Stonegate Serpents in 2021. Megan has three swimmers on the team. Eleanor, is 15 and a rising tenth grader at Richard Montgomery High School. Her twins, Katie and Tessa, are 14 and are rising freshmen at Springbrook High School. Megan is a lifelong competitive swimmer and likes to swim long distance (10k) open water swims! This is Megan’s third year as a B rep and she is so excited for an amazing season! What is she most looking forward to? Meeting all the new swimmers and families!
Rick is a proud MCSL and RMSC alum who's appreciating seeing things from the parents' side of the pool (ha!). He and his wife, Catherine, have two Serpents in their fifth season with the team, one starting pre-team this season, and one more bound for the pre-team in a few years! Joey, 12, is a rising seventh-grader at Loiederman Middle School; Jay, 9-turning-10 this summer, will be a fourth-grader at Strathmore Elementary in the fall; and their little brother and sister, Jack (5) and Sam (3 in August), aren't far behind. This is Rick's third year as B rep, and he's looking forward to working with Megan, Theresa, Tom, and all of you to provide a fun, supportive, and spirited atmosphere in which all of our swimmers can learn, grow, and thrive.
