News & Notes - July 19
- Blue vs. White Recap
Alas, Mother Nature won this year. And I never like to be the bearer of bad news, but we do not have the ability to reschedule the meet. I feel the disappointment of those for whom this was to be their first time across the pool in a competitive setting (or first time swimming a new stroke); I feel for those for whom this was to be their last time across the pool as a Serpent; and for everyone who was looking forward to hearing their name called, scoring points and swimming relays. We will discuss building a rain date into our calendar for next summer.
- Divisionals
For those traveling to River Falls for Divisionals tomorrow, there is no formal caravan (so I can only blame myself if we're driving too fast). Instead, meet in the River Falls parking lot at 6:45am. Warmups are at 7:20am. If you're the Starter, you are meeting with the Referee & CJ at 7:00am. Stroke & Turn Briefing at 7:15am. Timer and Relay Take-off Briefing at 7:30am. Events start at 8:00am.
Parking at River Falls is going to be very limited and we are among the last teams to arrive. Street parking is going to be your best option. Fingers crossed, I have attached a map that indicates walking paths that provide easier access to the pool from nearby streets.
And if you remember our trip to River Falls a few weeks ago, this is a "bring tents, chairs and blankets" situation. Our team area will be in the grass outside the fence. No natural shade. No chairs or umbrellas provided.
- What we still need...
...for Divisionals, we need only a volunteer to do Awards. This involves taking labels printed for you and adhering them to the backs of ribbons. Only our ribbons. And only if our swimmers finish in the top 6, generally speaking. Indoors. Air-conditioned. Eligible for SSL hours. Grab a friend and do it together. Signup on Swimtopia.
...for the Banquet, we need just a few more folks to help out with food service and clean-up. No restaurant experience required. All training provided on-site. First dibs on leftovers (I made that part up, but it might be true?). Signup on Swimtopia.
- That's All Folks
Thanks for investing in those white polos and navy shorts. Thanks for letting me choose between Fritos and Doritos for my Taco-in-a-Bag. Thanks for helping me set up tents. Thanks for delaying your family vacations until after July 20th. Thanks for organizing all the activities outside of the pool that make the swim team experience fun. Thanks for the blue Team Rep shirt that really highlights the color of my eyes. Thanks for reading this far.
